Preliminary Task: School Magazing (Front cover/Content page)

 

The images above are my interpretation of the monthly school magazine (Front cover/Content page) and to achieve this I used a variety of techniques to assist me on getting the appropriate look in terms of attracting readers (Using Photoshop).

 

To begin with, I chose to portray the front cover with a more proffesional approach because I believe, rather than using the traditional newsletter format for this task, it would be a better if an an exciting front was to be made because it has potential to generate more reader. In order to make my selected format I chose ro retain the school's colour scheme because I thought I would make the whole cover relevant and it would maintain the school's identity. Also I chose to feature a well known St Marks student as the main image because he is easily recognizable through out the school and he is in a typical school situation where hes studying on the computer. In addition, the main title is big, bold and relevant to the main picture and it also informs readers of the main story as well as maintain the suspence of the details of the story. Along the right side of the there are the other featured stories of the content of the magazine which are relevent to the way the school functions and also a charity feature on the left. As well as the above, There is the St Marks badge on the bottom left of the cover to as an addition to the schools identity recognision. And lastly there is a barcode because the aim is to sale the magazine and also a QR code which links readers to the school's website.

 

The Content page is fairly basic. It features a hige title on the top and key page references around the middle. On teh bottom there are relevant pictures that are to do with some of the stories/content and also of whats going on around school

 

 

Photo selection

 

The two pictures above were my potential photograph choices for the preliminary task because, to begin, with they both have a the appropriate settings to emphisise the theme of school/education. Also in the first picture I chose to have a black boy in the foreground and white people in the back to encorparate the idea of a multi cultural environment that welcomes people of all kinds, also the character is in medium shot in order for the audience to be able to see the computers and school objects in the background. I selected the second image for the following reasons; the relevant background, his formal clothing and the facial expressions.

 

Magazine Analysis

In this task we were to assess the different aspects throughout a selected magazine and comment on the editor's choice of purposeful techniques such as; Colour scheme, choice of photograph, font, corparate image, content preview, use if space etc...
